Visitors!

Thanks goodness for family and friends! From the hospital to adjusting to life at home, we have loved having the extra help and company (okay, and we'll admit... we also love showing him off!). Here are some pictures of Liam with his visitors:

Uncle Stork visited us for the first few days after Liam was born and got some quality time in the hospital with him:



Liam's first non-family visitor was my co-worker Sara who came to check him out. My best friend Jen came right after, but Liam was being fussy so she didn't get to hold him yet. There will be plenty of time for that to happen!



What would we do without our moms and grandma?! My mom (Nana) and grandma (GG) were here for our homecoming, and we couldn't have made that transition without them. Here is Liam cuddling with his Nana:

Yesterday Anthony's mom arrived, and Liam and Grandma immediately were smitten with one another!


We had our first pediatrician appointment yesterday morning, and while we did not like Dr. Dinosaur (who will luckily not be his regular dr) we were so happy to find out that Liam had already gained back 4 of the 6 ounces he had lost post-delivery! He is now 8 lbs. 2 oz. and is feeding like a champ. We don't have to go back for another month, which was encouraging.

We also had a home visit from a nurse yesterday, who came in to check on us. She will now be referred to as Saint Suzanne! My recovery has been difficult and a little stressful, and she gave me some new ways to take care of myself while also giving us some great strategies for taking care of Liam. Even though nursing is going well, we now have a new feeding routine and both mommy and baby are even happier. And using her advice, Liam had his first night sleeping in his bassinet for 2-3 hour stretches! Daddy got a great night's sleep and everyone is feeling like this is a little more manageable. For today anyway! One day at a time!

Homecoming

What a day! Today we were discharged from the hospital and made the journey home to Jean Drive. Liam was completely overwhelmed with the process, which started when we realized that all the clothes we brought to the hospital were way too big. He was not a happy camper.

We got home this afternoon to find this adorable gift from my office! It is so sweet and we can't thank them enough!




Waiting for us at home were Uncle Tim, Nana, and GG, who was so excited to finally meet her new great-grandson!



So here we are, adjusting to our new life together. Liam is completely wiped out and has been sleeping non-stop, which is sure to mean we are in for a long night awake :)

It's a Boy!

After 9 months (and 9 days past our due date), our long-awaited baby has finally arrived! We are thrilled to introduce our beautiful son, Liam Edward, born on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and 21 1/2 inches. Although he kept us on our toes a few times during labor and delivery, we are happy to say that he is healthy and doing great! He has a head full of dark hair and the sweetest little cry we have ever heard. He is named after Anthony's late father William and my father Edward, and speaking of whom, Nana and Grandpa G were Liam's first visitors-- anxiously waiting in the hospital for the news from one proud Papa! Uncle "Stork" Tim and fiance Jackie were next in the afternoon. We couldn't wait to show him off!

We'll be in the hospital until sometime tomorrow and then head home to try out this whole parenting thing without the wonderful team of doctors and nurses we have been so blessed with! Uncle Tim, Nana, and GG are visiting for the first half of the week and then Grandma R will come for the weekend. More news and photos to follow, but until then, here are a few from the first two days.

Tick Tock

Testing yesterday went great, so we got the green light to give Baby D one more weekend to come on his or her own before being scheduled for an induction early Monday morning. Let's go baby!

We are excited to have family coming to visit within the next few days. My brother Tim (a.k.a. The Stork) is arriving tomorrow, and baby's Grandma R. is coming from Milford on Thursday. We can't wait to finally have a son or daughter to introduce to them! The question remains... will it be today, Sunday, or Monday??

Baby Watch, Day 6

Well, February 13 has come and gone, so we are just taking it one day at a time while we wait for Baby D to finally make his or her debut. I've been trying to stay busy with housework, walks, and running errands, but in the end it's all just an attempt at distracting myself from the anxiety of "WHEN?!"

There is an end in sight, though, and it is soon. We will go to the hospital tomorrow morning for a non-stress test and an amniotic fluid index; if the tests come back fine then we won't be induced until Monday if needed. If there are any concerns, however, then they'll send us straight over to Labor & Delivery for induction tomorrow. Our families, friends, and co-workers have been so supportive, and we can't wait to have news for everyone soon!
